RHONDDA CREATIVE COMMUNITY GROUP | PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

As a volunteer with the Rhondda Creative Community Group, (now Rhondda Creative Creadigol), I hosted the photography competition which celebrated the creativity and beauty of the Rhondda to coincide with an exhibition of photographs from the Rhondda by myself and Tracey Leonard at The Workers Gallery. Over 240 entries were received and were due to be exhibited in an outdoor projected exhibition before touring around community venues in the Rhondda Fach and Fawr.
Due to lockdown measures and safety regulations regarding galleries and events, it was decided it would be safer to postpone. So instead, this video was curated from the images that entrants kindly agreed to be shared.

DAVID HURN: YNYSHIR, 25 MILE RADIUS | ON TOUR

In 2019, David Hurn’s exhibition, ‘Ynyshir 25 mile Radius’ at The Workers Gallery received visitors from all across Wales.

This exhibition has also been touring across the Rhondda valleys to dementia support groups, community venues and sheltered accommodations thanks to the generous support of David Hurn, The Workers Gallery and the Rhondda Creative Community Group.

THE BIG DRAW 2019 *A film created from content filmed by the families and participants.

A group of young artists from Ynyshir Primary School, South Wales, with The Workers Gallery and RCT Arts Services won an award in the category of ‘Community Participatory and Libraries’ at The Big Draw Festival 2019.

To get there, they had to fundraise almost £4,000! This video tells their story and is an opportunity to thank all of the 50+ individuals, small businesses, trusts, charities and community groups, and everyone who pulled out all the stops to get this inspiring group of young people to Manchester to receive their Big Draw Festival Award!

YNYSHIR

As part of the ‘The August Artist In Residency Programme 2019’ at The Workers Gallery, musician Bel Blue and photographer & video artist, Lucy Jane Purrington celebrated and explored the conviviality of benches.

Their residency involved time on the bench opposite The Workers Gallery, the surrounding area and inside the gallery.

This film has been created from the sounds, conversations and visual images captured during their residency on 8 August 2019 at The Workers Gallery, Ynyshir, Rhondda, Wales.
